A total of 20 beneficiaries of Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) from three of the barangays of the municipality of Tiaong in Quezon province completed the season-long training on sustainable organic vegetable production and were recognized during its graduation rites on October 23, 2018 at Quezon Agricultural Research and Experiment Station (QARES).
“This program will motivate the participants to engage in entrepreneurial activities by presenting them some livelihood opportunities in agriculture,” said Department of Agriculture (DA) CALABARZON Regional Director Arnel V. de Mesa.
Director de Mesa added that the training program provided 4Ps beneficiaries the opportunity to develop their own sustainable source of food and income.
“We should not be selfish. Whatever techniques or information we learn in agriculture, we should share it to the neighborhood. We should grow together as a community,” Assistant Regional Director for Research and Regulations Elmer T. Ferry emphasized in his message.
Meanwhile, 4Ps leader Myra I. Abeneles shared her impression on the training during the graduation ceremony. “After several months of training, we already harvested the vegetables that we planted, so it is really an advantage that we have learned new agricultural technologies,” she said.
The program is a collaborative effort of the DA CALABARZON and the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD). It is under the supervision of QARES headed by its Chief Dr. Estela C. Taño, in partnership with Cavite Agricultural Research and Experiment Station (CARES).
After the rites, a groundbreaking ceremony for DA-QARES Research and Development building funded by Bureau of Agricultural Research (BAR) was done and witnessed by DA Directors and Officials.
