Around 11 thousand farmers in Quezon received P 15,000 each from SureAid funds in the concluded Farmers’ Forum and Turn-over of Agricultural interventions on November 8,2019 in Tayabas City, Quezon.
Agriculture Secretary William Dar said that the SURE Aid Program is a form of financial assistance that is very affordable for the small farmers, as they only need to set aside PHP1,875 per year for 8 years to pay off their loan.
“Giving credit to the farmer with zero interest and long terms of payment is a very important strategy to make it possible to develop and grow Philippine Agriculture,” the agri chief said.
Aside from the loan, the Department of Agriculture (DA) will be carrying out a “Buy 2 Take 2” fertilizer program where farmers will receive 2 bags of urea fertilizer for every 2 bags bought.
During his visit, Sec. Dar announced that the performance of Philippine agriculture for the 3rd quarter of the year reached 2.87%.
Meanwhile, Regional Director Arnel V. de Mesa said that DA CALABARZON is doing everything and is willing to extend all possible help and interventions to our rice farmers affected by the cheaper imported rice.
A total of 5.3M worth of agricultural interventions were given to the farmers’ associations in Quezon.
On the other hand, In Sariaya, Sec. Dar recognized the National and Regional Gawad Saka awardees in the municipality and visited the Philippine Rural Development Project’s (PRDP’s) 13.8 KM Farm-to-Market road. JBGA, DA-RAFIS
