More than 200 shoppers were able to buy products from the KADIWA Diskwento Caravan, a joint program between the CALABARZON regional offices of the Department of Agriculture (DA) and the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) held at Bahayang Pag-asa Covered Court, Brgy. Molino 5, Bacoor City last April 27, 2020.

This activity is a combination of DA’s KADIWA ni Ani at Kita that focuses mainly on agricultural products while DTI’s Diskwento Karavan covers more affordable, basic commodities. Food products such as vegetables, fruits, fish, chicken, canned and frozen food products, as well as non-food products like detergents were sold to urban families affected by the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) due to COVID-19 pandemic.

“Okay naman s’ya dahil mabibili mo dito ang lahat ng kailangan mo sa pang araw-araw katulad ng karne, isda, at mga gulay. Malaking halaga para sa amin na makabili dito dahil wala kaming palengke na mapupuntahan dahil sa ECQ (This is a good activity because you can buy the everyday essentials you need like meat, fish, and vegetables, Buying here is a big deal for us because there are no nearby markets here and we cannot go to the nearest open markets because of ECQ),” Nila Ancheta, a Bacoor resident said.

KADIWA Diskwento Karavan served as a temporary market for those affected by ECQ. Because of direct links to farmers and other food manufacturers, this initiative can sell various food products at a cheaper price (even lower than the suggested retail price).

The two departments also ensure that those who are affected by the pandemic will have a KADIWA Diskwento Karavan that could deliver their necessities.

“Maganda dahil may ganito silang programa at mura ang mga bilihin katulad ng karne at gulay (We are lucky that the government has this kind of program where we can buy products for a lower price),” said Luchi Arenas.

Two agricultural groups supported by the DA regional office offered their products during the activity, namely, the SAGULAY Farmers Association and the Gen. Trias Dairy Raisers MPC. ● (RoFL, DA-RAFIS)
