Residents of Maharlika Hills Subdivision in Taytay, Rizal recently submitted a letter to Agriculture Secretary William D. Dar stating their intention to grow vegetables in their own backyards, vacant lots, and open spaces.
According to the Home Owners’ Association Environmental Committee Head Mr. Glenn Tupas, this is in support of the Department of Agriculture’s Plant, Plant, Plant program.
Upon receipt of a copy of the letter, the Agricultural Program Coordinating Office (APCO) in Rizal and the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist immediately conducted a site validation and inspection in response to a request of the residents for farm implements, seeds, educational materials, and training.
Ms. Maribel Nuas, a staff of APCO-Rizal, said that the residents of the subdivision received then different vegetable seeds and farm implements.
They were also given a basic lecture on urban gardening by the Taytay Municipal Agriculture Office. โ (JBGA, DA-RAFIS)
