With the current issues the agriculture sector is facing, the Regional Agriculture and Fishery Council (RAFC) of the CALABARZON region included in its agenda the discussion of African Swine Fever (ASF), Fall Army Worm (FAW), and Rice Tariffication Law (RTL) to look for more ways to combat or soften the impact of these issues on our farmers.

The RAFC serves as a great venue for the private groups across all agricultural sectors (i.e. corn, rice, livestock, etc.) in the region to convene, have dialogue with, issue resolution, and recommend policy to the Department of Agriculture.

According to RAFC Chairman Pedrito R. Kalaw, although the council is already doing some efforts to tackle these issues such as provision of farm equipment and information dissemination still a concrete response plans are needed to guide the council on its decisions and actions. Such response plans will be crafted by concerned sectoral committees and reviewed by the council for approval and implementation.

On the other hand, RAFC Executive Officer Abelardo D. Bragas, recommended to the Provincial AFCs to do the same on their respective provinces in coordination with their Local Government Units to ensure that efforts to address these issues are being done. (RFL. DA-RAFIS)
