The Department of Agriculture-Agricultural Program Coordinating Office (DA-APCO) in Batangas began distributing vegetable seedlings, which they sowed last April 13, 2020, to nearby residents for their community gardening.

Ms. Aiza M. Cabanes of Brgy. Pangao, Lipa City immediately received 104 squash and 104 ampalaya seedlings after sending a message to APCO expressing her interest in planting vegetables on her 1,000-square meter (sqm) property. She was also given eggplant, tomato, pechay, okra, kangkong, mustasa, sitaw, and siling pangsigang and tingala seeds. Ms. Cabanes said that she would share all these seedlings and seeds, and her harvests with her neighbors.

Wounded soldiers of Philippine Air Force in Brgy. Bilaran, Nasugbu, through Sgt. Ronnie M. Cuare, also received 104 each of eggplant, tomato, bell pepper, squash, and ampalaya seedlings for their almost 1,000-sqm land. They also got a kilo each of pechay, mustasa, okra, and sitaw seeds.

These soldiers were also among the beneficiaries of the demonstration farm for vegetable production technology established last year by DA CALABARZON’s High Value Crops Development Program to provide them with new farming skills and knowledge, and to increase their production and income.

APCO-Batangas continues to produce various vegetables within its premises in support of the DA’s Plant, Plant, Plant program.
