Farmer-Cooperators in Brgy. San Andres, Tanay, Rizal received bags of palay seeds and fertilizers from the Department of Agriculture CALABARZON Rizal Agricultural Research and Experiment Station (RARES) through its Community-based Participatory Action Research (CPAR) project on Rice-Garlic Farming System.

The Rice-Garlic Farming System describes how garlic can be planted after rice is harvested in the upland areas where irrigation is limited.

According to Project Leader Alexandra Q. Jamoralin, they are projecting that this CPAR project will give a 10% increase to the farmers’ productivity and income.

In addition, the researchers trained the farmers on how to produce their own seeds to minimize the production cost of the farmers.

The DA CPAR project on Rice-Garlic Farming is a collaborative effort by the researchers, farmers-cooperative and other stakeholders which will benefit not only the farmers but to the whole community in the barangay.

The said project started last June 2019 and will end this December 2020. ● (JBGA, DA-RAFIS)
