An elementary student from Binangonan, Rizal won the annual regional poster-making contest last September 26 organized for the World Food Day 2019 celebration at STIARC Hall, Lipa City, Batangas.

Allysa Giana S. Antiporda of Binangonan Elementary School won against 14 other elementary students from different school divisions in CALABARZON. The theme for this year’s contest and celebration is “Our actions are our future. Healthy Diets for a #ZeroHungerWorld.”

According to her essay attached to the artwork, Antiporda believes that everyone should be able to eat a healthy diet and that more people will go into farming and fishing. “Makikita niyo po sa aking iginuhit na nagtutulungan sila para walang magutom… at lahat ay busog at malusog,” she added. She won P5,000.00 as prize.

Aside from her, two other students won a place in this organized activity of the Regional Agriculture and Fisheries Information Division. These two are Kian Xairuz B. Kalaw of Taysan Central School from Taysan, Batangas for 2nd Place and Christine Anne S. Nabayra of Trece Martires City Central School from Trece Martires City, Cavite for 3rd Place. They won P3,000.00 and P2,000.00 respectively while the other participants went home with P500.00.

Before the start of the competition proper, Patria T. Bulanhagui, Regional Information Officer of Department of Agriculture – CALABARZON gave the rationale behind the competition and the World Food Day itself which is an initiative of the Food and Agriculture Organization. ” the contest is a great way to inculcate to the participants or the youth the importance of agriculture and food security and perhaps to entice them to take up a career in agriculture when they grow up. She emphasized that agriculture is one of the most important sectors around the world because all people needs food to survive,” she added.

The judges for the competition are Wilmer S. Faylon, Officer-In-Charge of the Quezon Agriculture Research and Experiment Station and an artist; Aida Luistro, Senior Science Research Specialist of Research Division – DA CALABARZON; and Ester G. Bulan, an art educator and former professor in Saint Scholastica’s College.

Antiporda will represent the CALABARZON region in national level of the contest in conjunction with the Celebration of World Food Day in October. (LAB and RFL, DA-RAFIS)
