Corn Production Training Conducted
A 3-day training on Corn Production led by Avelita M. Rosales, Regional Corn Program Coordinator was conducted at El Cielito Hotel, City of Sta. Rosa, Laguna on November 7-9, 2018.
According to Rosales it was a request from the Agriculture and fishery council from the province of Batangas that they be allowed to participate in the said training since most of their activities are monitoring of agricultural programs and projects they need to know more about monitoring the projects.
Topics discussed and speakers were: Thrusts and Directions – Arlene Natanauan, General Guidelines for Buffer Stock Program – Ernie Rabusa, Site-Specific Nutrient Management (SSNM) Angie Dimaculangan, Vanesse Yamido – Aflatoxin; Alexander Calingasan – Corn Production and Integrated Pest Management – Shiela Sandoval. All lecturers are Corn Program Staff except for Sandoval who is from RCPC.
During the open forum that followed thereafter, most of the questions were on agri-machineries e.g. the brands which are not user friendly to the farmers. Rosales replied that those agri machineries passed thru bidding process and she has no hand in selecting brands since bidding is required in Republic Act 9184.
About 30 agricultural and fishery council officers and members from the municipalities of Sta. Teresita, Sto. Tomas, Cuenca, Balete, Padre Garcia, Laurel, Bauan and San Pascual attended the activity. Most of them are also corn farmers.
