In response to Agriculture Secretary William D. Dar’s OneDA Holistic Approach towards a modern and industrialized agriculture sector, the Department of Agriculture (DA) Region IV-CALABARZON, in coordination with the 1st District of Quezon Representative and Chairman of the House Committee on Food and Agriculture Hon. Mark Wilfrido M. Enverga, met with farmers and fisherfolk in the 1st District of Quezon to harmonize agricultural interventions on March 4-5, 2021, held in Tayabas City, Quezon.

The harmonization meeting aims to integrate and coordinate the Department and DA-attached agencies’ ongoing and proposed plans, projects, and programs for farmers and fisherfolk in the district for the year 2021. Another objective of the consultation meeting is to directly present these improvement strategies and interventions to their stakeholders, as well as to avoid duplication of programs among agencies. The assembly also aims to address and resolve concerns and issues in the sector.

In his message, Cong. Enverga expressed his appreciation to DA’s continued support to all the farmers and fisherfolk in the 1st District of Quezon. “Lubos po ang aking pasasalamat sa Kagawaran ng Pagsasaka sa pangunguna nina Secretary William D. Dar at OIC-Regional Executive Director Ms. Vilma M. Dimaculangan sa kanilang walang sawang pagtulong at pagmamalasakit sa mga magsasaka at mangingisda sa unang distrito ng Quezon. Ang pagpupulong pong ito ay isang magandang pagkakataon upang tayo ay makabuo ng plano para sa ikauunlad ng sakahan at pangingisdaan sa ating lugar,” Cong. Enverga said.

Director Dimaculangan thanked the farmers and fisherfolk who attended the harmonization meeting. She said that with the continuous partnership between the Department and its stakeholders, the year 2021 can be a great year for the agri-fishery sector. “Makakaasa po kayo na ibubuhos po namin ang mga tulong mula sa Kagawaran patungo sa mga organisadong grupo ng iba’t ibang commodities. Magtulungan po tayo at sama-sama po tayo tungo sa mas masaganang ani at mataas na kita,” Director Dimaculangan said.

The regional office’s banner programs for corn, rice, livestock, high-value crops, and organic agriculture, as well as the Regional Agricultural Engineering Division (RAED) and Agribusiness and Marketing Assistance Division (AMAD), presented their plans, implementing guidelines, policies, and requirements for the year 2021 committed to improving the lives of farmers and fisherfolk in the district.

DA-attached agencies including the Philippine Rice Research Institute, Philippine Center for Postharvest Development and Mechanization, National Irrigation Administration, Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources 4A, and Philippine Coconut Authority also presented their intervention allocations for the 1st District of Quezon farmers and fisherfolk.
