Department of Agriculture (DA) Region IV-CALABARZON resumed its distribution of indemnification to African Swine Fever (ASF)-affected farmers in the region immediately after the Department of Budget and Management released a total of P49,960,000.00 for such purpose early March.
As of March 23, 2021, the regional office paid the said amount to 1,600 hog raisers from various cities/towns in the region for the hogs they peacefully surrendered during the depopulation activity of the DA-4A to prevent the spread of the ASF virus.
OIC-Regional Director Vilma M. Dimaculangan assured all hog raisers who are qualified to receive indemnification will receive their financial assistance in due time.
Mr. Cedric Mendoza (not his real name), a 61-year-old hog raiser from Candelaria, expressed his appreciation to the regional office. He received P50,000.00 from the Department for the 10 pigs he surrendered.
“Napalaki po ng aking pasasalamat sa bigay po ng DA sa amin na tulong. Malaking kaginhawahan po ito sa amin na mga nawalan ng hanap-buhay dulot ng ASF,” Mr. Mendoza said.
Aside from the indemnification, Director Dimaculangan reiterated several programs that the Department is offering to ASF-affected farmers, such as alternative livelihood assistance and DA-credit facilities. ####
