The Department of Agriculture (DA) Region IV-CALABARZON officials led by Regional Director Arnel V. de Mesa attended the turn-over ceremony of the PhP1,810,000.00 worth of coffee processing facility to Pinagdanlayan Multi-Purpose Cooperative (MPC) in Dolores, Quezon on February 15, 2019.
The construction of the said facility was completed in 2018 and is equipped with coffee roaster, coffee pulper, coffee huller, and coffee grinder machines.
The Municipality of Dolores is one of the top producers of coffee in Quezon province where most of its produce go to different parts of the region.
“It’s been so long since we were dreaming of having our very own coffee processing facility in our barangay. Many of us (members of MPC) are coffee growers ourselves. We thought, we are producing coffee, why not process it as well,” Engr. Apolonio de Rosales, Chairman of Pinagdanlayan MPC, said.
With the assistance of the DA CALABARZON, their dream became a reality.
Once the coffee processing facility becomes fully-operational, it will not only cater the coffee growers of Dolores but also the coffee growers of nearby municipalities like Candelaria, and Sariaya.
The building of the coffee processing facility in Dolores will help their coffee growers increase their income and will provide additional livelihood opportunities among them.
According to Regional Director de Mesa, coffee is one of the priority commodities under the High Value Crops Development Program (HVCDP) in the region and the building of the coffee processing facility in Dolores is only one of the ways the Department is doing to strengthen the coffee industry in the CALABARZON region.
Also present in the turn-over ceremony were Dolores Mayor Mario M. Milan, Jr., Dolores Municipal Agriculturist Anniewenda P. Reyes, Assistant Provincial Agriculturist of Quezon Ma. Leonellie G. Dimalaluan, DA CALABARZON Operations Division Officer-In-Charge Chief Dennis R. Arpia, and Regional HVCDP Focal Person Redelliza A. Gruezo. · RFL
