DA 4A to fully utilize AWS, gearing towards precision agriculture

 

Department of Agriculture (DA) Region IV-CALABARZON, through the Management Information System (MIS), conducted the In-Depth Training on System Access and Maintenance for Automated Weather Station (AWS), held at Southern Tagalog Integrated Agricultural Research Center in Lipa City, Batangas on October 2, 2020.

Precision agricultural technology aims to provide local climate conditions and optimized farming practices; and in order to prepare the 12 AWS sites for launch in Amadeo and Maragondon, Cavite; Cavinti and Pila, Laguna; Lipa City and San Luis, Batangas; Morong and Tanay, Rizal; and Atimonan, Buenavista, Gen. Nakar, and Sariaya, Quezon, this kind of training is being conducted. DA CALABARZON personnel and representatives from the local government of San Luis attended today’s training schedule.

The on-site session and lecture discussion were led by Mr. Allan Allares of Philinstruments, Corp. Among the topics addressed are the AWS objective, components, and familiarization; data viewing on the cloud platform; and common data recovery issues.

According to Mr. Dennis R. Arpia, Assistant Regional Director for Operations and Rice Program Coordinator, AWS technology is one of the agency’s initiatives to help farmers in CALABARZON achieve their bountiful harvests and higher income. Moreover, he is counting on the participants and the local government unit partner to extend their technical knowledge continuously to support more Filipino farmers.

Engr. Redelliza A. Gruezo, Officer-In-Charge-Chief of Field Operations Division and High Value Crops Development Program Coordinator, shared that the technology has promising potential to help the farmers increase yield and achieve economic growth on a larger scale.

DA CALABARZON will conduct the same training to reach other beneficiaries and trainees in the coming days. (JAPE, DA-RAFIS)
