Department of Agriculture IV-CALABARZON (DA-4A) conducted an orientation to the agricultural extension workers (AEWs) of Rizal, Cavite, and Quezon about the Registry System for Basic Sector in Agriculture (RSBSA) on July 13-16.

RSBSA is an electronic compilation of basic information of farmers, farm laborers, and fisherfolk. The main use of the database is to help the government in formulating policies for agricultural development and to have an accurate record of the key players in the agricultural industry.

The goal of the orientation is to help the AEWs in familiarizing themselves on the procedures on updating the existing data about the vital information of the farmers, fisherfolks, farmer/fisherfolk associations, and cooperatives, such as total count of farmers, fishers, farmer’s/fisher’s name and farm location, in order to have an accurate, precise, and comprehensive RSBSA masterlist.

It is important to have an updated RSBSA since this is the reference of DA on which farmer/fisherfolk associations and cooperatives are eligible to receive agricultural interventions, financial assistance, and loan facilities, and to monitor the progress of the assistance beneficiaries.

“Kailangan ng security sa data para ‘yong legitimate farmers ang fully na maka-receive ng assistance mula sa atin,” Suzette Panopio, DA-4A RSBSA focal person, said.

“Ang impact [ng RSBS] ay naramdaman no’ng nagkaroon ng pandemic dahil ‘di nabigyan ng ayuda ‘yong mga magsasaka na wala sa RSBSA,” Editha Haway, Office of Congressman Enverga Agriculture Coordinator, added.

A review of the process of RSBSA application and walkthrough on the updated RSBSA form, also known as the Ani at Kita form, was also conducted during the orientation. Filling up this form is the initial procedure in applying to the RSBSA. #### (Reina Beatriz P. Peralta, DA-4A RAFIS)
