November 9, 2018 – As part of the celebration of National Rice Awareness Month (NRAM), the Department of Agriculture Region IV CALABARZON Rice Program spearheaded the conduct of “boodle fight” where employees ate brown rice instead of the typical white rice.
In his message, Assistant Regional Director for Operations and Extension Milo D. delos Reyes encouraged employees to eat brown rice in line with the efforts of the government to promote better health and in support to the NRAM.
Moreover, Rice Program Coordinator Engr. Enrique H. Layola emphasized that brown rice is a healthy substitute to white rice because the whole grain is rich in protein, fiber, vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and other nutrients.
Panatang Makapalay was recited, led by Suzette Claribelle T. Panopio, which reminds every consumer to avoid rice wastage.
This year’s celebration is themed, “Quality Rice. Quality Life.” where everyone is encouraged to take part in achieving rice self-sufficiency as well as in promoting responsible rice consumption for better health, less wastage, and productive farming.
