DA CALABARZON confirms 161 farmer-graduates of SOA
The Department of Agriculture (DA) Region IV CALABARZON through its Regional Agriculture and Fisheries Information Office confirmed 161 farmer-graduates of “Radyo Eskwela sa CALABARZON on Corn Production: Wais na Pagmamais Para sa Aning Mas Marami at Kitang Mas Malaki” in the province of Quezon, held on December 6, 2018 at Quezon Agricultural Research and Experiment Station (QARES) in Brgy. Lagalag, Tiaong.
Graduates from four participating municipalities and one city, i.e. Candelaria, Pagbilao, Sariaya, Tiaong, and Lucena were recognized and given certificates for their hard work and dedication in completing the said training. DA technical staff or experts who served as radio teachers of different lessons were given appreciation for their valuable contribution and unwavering support to the conduct of the program. The provincial, city, and municipal agriculture offices were also acknowledged for its active involvement and support to the school-on-the-air (SOA) program.
Participants learned topics and took quizzes on 1) morphological and physiological characteristics of corn, 2) types of corn for varying production practices, 3) insect pests and diseases of corn and their management, 4) nutrient management for corn with soil analysis, 5) postharvest handling of corn, and 6) marketing corn. These lessons were aired over Radyo Natin 106.3 FM Laguna every Friday at 8:30 – 9:15 am and KISS FM 95.1 every Saturday at 12:00 – 12:45 pm, all first and third weeks of the month, from September to November, 2018; and were posted on Department of Agriculture Region 4A Facebook Page.
Regional Corn Program Coordinator Avelita M. Rosales also attended the graduation and sponsored most of the tokens given to top students of each municipality and city, and items drew for raffle.
Radyo Eskwela sa CALABARZON aspires to achieve certain behavioral changes in agricultural practices among farming communities in the said province – from information to cognitive and affective knowledge to actual behavioral change, results in action for social and economic mobilization. ###ARC
