The Regional Livestock Program of the Department of Agriculture (DA) Region IV-CALABARZON provided a total of 15 carabao heifers to 15 farmers of barangays Cawongan and Quilo-Quilo South in Padre Garcia, Batangas.
The animal stock distribution is part of the implementation of the Community-based Participatory Action Research (CPAR) on rice-based farming system wherein rice will be the base commodity followed by vegetable production along with carabao raising.
βThe activity aims to introduce technologies that are local and fit to the farming community. The provided carabao heifers will help the farmers achieve the goals of the CPAR on rice-based farming system that will help augment the lives of every single farmer in CALABARZON,β said Ms. Avelita M. Rosales, Officer-In-Charge-Chief of the Research Division.
Mr. Pedro R. Bringas Jr., Science Research Specialist I, likewise shared that the farming system would enable farmers to increase their income and yield in production.
The system is an integration of lower rice production cost; diversified and intensified vegetable production; and carabao breeder production which includes artificial insemination, herd health management, and dairy enterprise development.
Meanwhile, Mayor Celsa B. Rivera of Padre Garcia expressed that, “With the help of the DA CALABARZON, our town and farmers will continuously prosper and gain more from farming and Agriculture.” β (JAPE, DA-RAFIS)
