DA CALABARZON extends P2.5M indemnification to ASF-affected farmers in Bacoor, Cavite

The Department of Agriculture Region IV-CALABARZON, in coordination with City Government of Bacoor, distributed the P2.5-million worth of indemnification to backyard hog raisers affected by African Swine Fever (ASF) in Bacoor, Cavite on February 14, 2020 at Multi-Purpose Hall of Brgy. Molino III, Bacoor, Cavite.

Assistant Regional Director (ARD) for Research and Regulations, and Regional Livestock Coordinator, Ms. Vilma M. Dimaculangan, with Agricultural Program Coordinating Officer for Cavite, Ms. Eda F. Dimapilis, led the distribution to the first batch of ASF-affected farmers.

Each farmer received P5,000 per hog collected by the regional office due to ASF. However, the indemnification fund can only cover a maximum of 20 hogs per farmer.

Explaining the longevity of the ASF and the impending city ordinance of Bacoor to temporarily ban hog raising, ARD Dimaculangan suggested urban gardening as an alternative to hog raising.

Likewise, affected farmers from other barangays who are yet to receive the indemnification fund were assured that they will be compensated as well. โ— (SDAL, DA-RAFIS)
