With the aim of strengthening camaraderie and unity and promoting sportsmanship among the Department of Agriculture Region IV CALABARZON officials and employees, and ensuring their physical and mental health, the 2018 Regional Sports Festival was held over three days, from April 4 to 6, at Tanza Oasis Hotel and Resort in Cavite.
The event showcased the traditional Filipino games dubbed “Laro ng Lahi” thus most of the activities were palosebo, tiyakad, sack race, bunong braso, agawang buko, kadang-kadang, juego de amillo, tumbang preso, patintero, agawang base, tug of war, hulihang baboy, and pukpok palayok. Other games included were basketball, volleyball, and swimming. Aside from these, there was a cheer dance competition.
Around 500 participants were grouped into four teams: Red Team – Regional Office and Philippine Rural Development Project (PRDP) employees; Green Team – Southern Tagalog Integrated Agricultural Research Center (STIARC), Lipa Agricultural Research and Experiment Station (LARES), and Agricultural Program Coordinating Office (APCO)-Batangas employees; Orange Team – APCO-Cavite, APCO-Rizal, Cavite Agricultural Research and Experiment Station (CARES), and Rizal Agricultural Research and Experiment Station (RARES) employees; and Blue Team – APCO-Quezon, APCO-Laguna, Quezon Agricultural Research and Experiment Station (QARES), and Regional Crop Protection Center (RCPC) employees which competed in the said games.
Each game/activity has corresponding cash award and/or trophy.
The Orange Team came out to be the Overall Champion with 190 points and received Php40,000; the Blue Team as 1st Runner-up (90 points and Php30,000); the Red Team as 2nd Runner-up (85 points and Php20,000); and the Green Team as 3rd Runner-up (35 points and Php10,000).
