Over 500 swine, poultry, and dairy raisers, together with government officials and employees from some regions in the country, joined the 2nd National Livestock and Poultry Technology Exposition in conjunction with the livestock roadmap stakeholders’ forum, held at Southern Tagalog Integrated Agricultural Research Center in Lipa City, Batangas on November 29, 2019.
With the theme “Masaganang Kita sa Makabagong Teknolohiya,” the event focused on reassuring consumers that eating pork is safe in the midst of the issue on African swine fever (ASF).
Regional Director Arnel V. de Mesa of the Department of Agriculture (DA) Region IV-CALABARZON emphasized in his message that the ASF situation in the region is continuously being contained and controlled. “With appropriate measures to combat this pressing issue and through this expo, we are still reaching out to our small backyard raisers to introduce different DA programs which might help them improve their production and income,” he said.
It is a day full of learnings in which different experts were invited to explain to backyard raisers useful topics in farming and relevant government interventions and programs such as loan program; livestock insurance program; biosecurity, traceability, and branding Batangas pork; and swine, poultry, and dairy-related discussions. Field tours to poultry farms, a dairy cooperative, and a triple-A slaughterhouse were also done.
Moreover, pork barbeque and lechon were served as a way of showing everyone that it is safe and encouraging all to support our farmers. There were also exhibits for machinery and equipment, agricultural value-added products, and information materials.
This one-day event was co-sponsored by DA CALABARZON Livestock Program, Agricultural Training Institute Regional Training Center IV-A, and National Livestock Program. ● ARC, DA-RAFIS
