With the aim of developing, promoting, and consolidating organic farming activities, as well as establishing and implementing a cohesive and integrated organic agriculture agenda in the region, the Department of Agriculture CALABARZON, through its Organic Agriculture Program, recently met with Cavite Responsible Organic Producers (CROPs), one of the components of the CALABARZON Organic Exchange (CORE), an organic stakeholder network in the provinces of Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, and Quezon.

โ€œWe began organizing consultation and roundtable discussion among farmers, players, stakeholders, organic practitioners, and cooperatives to address the gaps, advantages, and benefits of organic farming to the agricultural sector,โ€ said Ms. Eda F. Dimapilis, Regional Organic Agriculture Coordinator.

In her latest meeting with Mr. Ruy Valente Polistico, Mr. Gabriel Arubio, and Engr. Manolete Flores of CROPs, they have discussed issues and concerns in the value chain segment, production of seeds and fertilizers, and processing, postharvest, and marketing of organic produce.

โ€œWe have also cropped up a plan for possible strategies and interventions needed,โ€ she added.

The plan is to put up seed production areas, livestock, concoction laboratory, and fertilizer production facilities for the maintenance of organic crop production.

โ€œWe will work with other organic agriculture proponents and stakeholders from other provinces in CALABARZON, who have a wide range of interests and put them together in a structured and working unit to serve their interests and to prepare for a better organic world,โ€ Ms. Dimapilis shared. โ— (ARC, DA-RAFIS)
