In order to strengthen and harmonize various agricultural programs aimed at increasing the yield and income of farmers and fisherfolk, the Deparment of Agriculture Region IV-CALABARZON met with provincial local government units (PLGUs) through its respective agriculture and veterinary offices on June 18, 2020 at STIARC Training Hall, Lipa City, Batangas.

The meeting served as a venue for updating participants with the Department’s current programs and tackling issues pertaining to the region’s agricultural sector.

The implementation of the Rice Resiliency Project (RRP), which distributes free, high-quality seeds and fertilizers to rice farmers, was part of the discussion.

Mr. Dennis R. Arpia, Assistant Regional Director for Operations and Regional Rice Program Coordinator, noted the LGUs’ crucial role in ensuring that the interventions under the RRP are being used to achieve the optimum level of rice production this wet-cropping season.

Participants of the activity have also expressed their full commitment to formulate medium- to long-term plans to achieve higher food sufficiency level in the region. • (JAPE, DA-RAFIS)
