Some 80 participants from the offices of provincial and city/municipal agriculturist of Rizal and Batangas attended the orientation seminar on guidelines and protocols of various regulatory policies being implemented by the Department of Agriculture (DA) on May 9, 2019 at STIARC, Lipa City, Batangas.
The said activity spearheaded by the Regulatory Division of DA CALABARZON aims to cascade information on relevant laws and other legal issuances pertaining to regulatory functions of DA. And to seek support from the Local Government Units (LGUs) to effectively implement these laws/policies.
Among the topics covered were RA 1556 (Livestock and Poultry Feed Act); RA 3720 (Foods, Drugs, and Devices and Cosmetic Act); and RA 8485 (Animal Welfare Act) in relation to registration of license to operate establishments. AO No. 8 (Registration and Licensing of Livestock Handlers), AO No. 13 (Requirements and Guidelines in the Transport and Shipments of Livestock) and Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) and Good Animal Husbandry Practices (GAHP) and AO No. 1 (Guidelines and Reclassification of Agricultural Lands) were also discussed.
Farmer-Director Pedrito Kalaw recognized the important role of the LGUs not only in enriching the production and income of the farmers but also in protecting their industry by adhering to regulatory policies.
Another workshop will be held on May 23 and June 13 for Laguna and Cavite; and Quezon Province participants, respectively, at the same venue. • RFL/RAFIS
