With the supplemental budget coming in from the Ahon Lahat, Pagkaing Sapat (ALPAS) Kontra COVID-19 program of the Department of Agriculture (DA), its regional office in CALABARZON will expand its vegetable production in the region.

This is the statement of Regional Director Arnel V. de Mesa during the video conference with the management committee of the DA IV-CALABARZON and the provincial agriculturists and veterinarians on March 31, 2020 while discussing the ALPAS.

“Through ALPAS we will be able to distribute more vegetable seeds, seedlings, and other production support to our farmers in the region,” Director de Mesa said.

He added that suitable and available areas in the provincial offices and research stations of the regional office will be planted with vegetables. He requested the provincial agriculturists to also identify areas that can be used as vegetable production sites (like schools, barangays, other public areas, and private idle lands) and which will be supported by the regional office in terms of provision of inputs and tools.

The produce in these identified production sites can be given or sold at affordable prices to nearby markets or via KADIWA. ● (RFL, DA-RAFIS)
