The High Value Crops Development Program (HVCDP) of the Department of Agriculture Region IV-CALABARZON (DA IV-CALABARZON) conducted two (2) day Assessment & Planning Workshop for the provinces of Laguna and Cavite on November 5 to 6 at Days Hotel, Tagaytay City.
Some 130 participants (90-Cavite and 40-Laguna) composing of Municipal Agriculturists (MAOs), Agricultural Extension Workers (AEWs), Agricultural Provincial Coordinating Officer’s Staff (APCO Staff) and HVCDP Provincial Focal Persons attended.
Engr. Redelliza Gruezo, OIC-Chief Operations Division / Regional HVCDP Focal Person of DA-CALABARZON gave her welcome remarks and overview of the workshop.
Further discussions on: Updates on Crops Pests and Diseases were clearly discussed by Ms. Cecille Manzanilla, Chief-Regional Crops Protection Center (RCPC). Ms. Marical Arbillo on the otherhand, also from RCPC talked about GeoTagging/Simple mapping for easy monitoring (e.g. areas affected of a particular pests or insects invading a particular crop).
The participants were grouped into two later in the afternoon. Two sessions were simultaneously done, one for Cavite, the other one, Laguna.
For Laguna, Ms. Janice Fajardo, HVCDP Report Officer talked about the updates of monthly accomplishment forms being submitted by the LGUs. For Cavite attendees, by Ms. Lea Vida, Statistical Analyst of the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) discussed about Data on Crops Production Preliminary Estimates for the five (5) primary commodities
After the lecture proper the participants were asked to prepare reports and monitoring of the following:
1. Planting and harvesting with expanded monthly agriculture & fisheries situation;
2. Surveillance of pests and diseases;
3. Established Techno Demonstration on the priority commodities—coffee, cacao,banana, vegetables & mango; and
4. Annual updating of Farmer’s profile
