Dr. Comia announced that under Lipa City’s recovery plan as of February 2021, there are already seven barangays across the city with sentinel animals. Besides, one barangay is currently undergoing Bioassay 1 and 2 (Nanogold technology testing and PCR kit testing). Meanwhile, six more barangays are undertaking the disinfection phase.
Agriculture Secretary William D. Dar deemed this repopulation initiative of the Lipa City Veterinary Office as noteworthy. The Secretary instructed DA CALABARZON OIC-Regional Executive Director Vilma M. Dimaculangan to popularize Lipa’s repopulation program to serve as an example for other ASF-affected areas in the Philippines.
At the end of his presentation, Dr. Comia is optimistic that five to seven barangays in Lipa City will be ASF-free and ready for recovery and repopulation by March to April this year.
