About 400 residents of Nathania Homes in Brgy. Pasong Kawayan 2, Gen. Trias, Cavite were able to buy fresh and affordable farmers’ produce and groceries when KADIWA Diskwento Karavan visited their subdivision on May 12, 2020.

The Karavan is a joint activity of the Department of Agriculture (DA) and the Department of Trade and Industry, bringing fresh and affordable agricultural products and basic commodities to urban communities.

To ensure that physical distancing is observed during the activity, Mr. Jay Gan, Nathania Homes Property Developer, scheduled the arrival of residents by six batches to control the number of shoppers for the whole day. There were also people ensuring that physical distancing is strictly observed by the shoppers.

“Maganda ang programa na ito dahil mura ang mga bilihin. Hindi na kami maglalakad nang malayo para bumili. Sana laging may ganito sa lugar namin,” Mariel Gabilao said, a Nathania Homes resident, said.

“Maganda ang kalidad ng mga gulay at prutas, at mas mura ang presyo. Sana laging may ganitong programa ang gobyerno lalo na ngayon,” said Baby Barrera, also a resident.

Regional Director Arnel de Mesa said that the DA in CALABARZON region is in constant coordination with various farmers’ associations and private groups to bring KADIWA to more urban communities.

Two agricultural groups supported by the DA CALABARZON offered their products during the activity, namely the SAGULAY Farmers’ Association and the Gen. Trias Dairy Raisers’ Multi-Purpose Cooperative. ● (RoFL, DA-RAFIS)
