Farmers and fishermen of Laguna are assured that they can sell their produce and earn despite this challenging time.

That is because many local government units (LGUs) in the province through the city and municipal agriculture offices continue to help them by buying their harvests. LGUs then resell the vegetables, fruits, rice, and even seafood or distribute these to residents as part of its relief efforts.

Vegetable crops such as squash, cabbage, tomato, eggplant, radish, tilapia, etc. are sold at the Office of the Municipal Agriculturist of Victoria at retail and wholesale prices. LGU-Kalayaan and LGU-Nagcarlan are partnering with the LGU-Victoria to help Victoria farmers and fisherfolk earn for themselves.

LGU-Cabuyao City continues to buy farmers’ produce. It is stated at the Cabuyao Agriculture Office Facebook page that within two weeks, they had already purchased tons and kilos of vegetables.

Part of the post’s caption says, “Patuloy po ang aming pakikipag-ugnayan sa ating mga magsasaka at mangingisda upang sila ay lalong matulungan. Bukod dito, layunin din po naming mabigyan ng masustansyang pagkain ang bawat Cabuyeño (We continue to coordinate with our farmers to help them more. In addition, we also aim to provide each Cabuyeño with nutritious food).”

Various vegetables were also purchased by the City Government of Calamba from their farmers and gave these to their constituents. The LGU also distributed farm products to inmates of the city jail.

LGU-Cavinti does not forget to include in their relief goods some agricultural products such as rice and tilapia.

Front liners in Luisiana receive pole sitao, radish, ampalaya, tomato, and eggs by their local government.

Farmers’ Information and Technology Services-Magdalena helps dairy farmers in town sell their products like chocolate milk, fresh milk, white cheese, flavored yogurt drink, and many more.

They are just a few of the LGUs in Laguna that continue to support their farmers and fishermen at all times.

The Department of Agriculture seeks to inspire other LGUs and farmer’s organizations to work hand-in-hand for the continued development of the region’s agricultural sector. ● (ARC, DA-RAFIS)
