APRIL 14, 2020, LIPA CITY, BATANGAS – Lipa Agricultural Research and Experiment Station (LARES) employees prepare and till vacant lots at the back of the Technology Commercialization Building for the transplanting of vegetable seedlings.
It was on April 9 when LARES Officer-in-Charge Superintendent Cynthia DT. Leycano started sowing mustasa, pechay, okra, and radish vegetable seeds there.
LARES employees likewise recycle large water bottles that serve as viable pots for the remaining seedlings, a practice associated with container gardening.
Container gardening is a practice that makes use of huge water bottles and other available containers at home for growing vegetables and other crops. The containers used for planting can be assembled vertically in order to compensate for the limited, if not lacking, space – one of the primary considerations in practicing urban agriculture.
“The vegetables to be harvested will serve as food supply of the skeletal workforce of the regional office,” Ms. Leycano shared. ● (SDAL, DA-RAFIS)
