“Although the Philippine Animal Health Information System (PhilAHIS) is used extensively by our partner veterinary offices in the provincial level, still we need more of our city and municipal local government units to adopt the PhilAHIS to effectively collect relevant data and to provide a very reliable database of livestock sector, available to all stakeholders.”
This is the key message of the Regional PhilAHIS Coordinator Zaldy Calderon in hopes of revitalizing the PhilAHIS program in the CALABARZON region during the Regional PhilAHIS Conference on December 4-5, 2019 at Chateau Royale Hotel in Nasugbu, Batangas.
PhilAHIS is an online reporting system for monitoring animal health in the Philippines initiated by the Bureau of Animal Industry. It provides data on animal health, routine services, animal vaccination, and rabies cases, to name a few.
“The need for an easily accessible and credible data has never been more important, especially in times of animal disease emergencies like African Swine Fever (ASF) where data on population is required and can serve as our basis to come up with the feasible budget proposal.” Dr. Jerome Cuasay said, report officer of the Livestock Program, Department of Agriculture Region IV-CALABARZON.
Mr. Calderon emphasized that the active cooperation of our partner LGUs, especially in the municipal level, in submitting the necessary reports is a crucial factor to successfully implement the objectives of PhilAHIS.
In this regard, he presented the draft of proposed joint resolution to institutionalize the use of PhilAHIS in the provinces, cities, and municipalities in the region to be signed by the Regional Director of DA CALABARZON, Provincial, and City Veterinarians, and Municipal Agriculturists, among others. The said draft is still subject for further review. (RFL, DA-RAFIS)
