Rice Program conducts year-end assessment and planning workshop
Around 100 participants attended the Department of Agriculture (DA) Region IV CALABARZON Rice Program’s year-end review and planning workshop conducted on December 17 – 18, 2018 at Tanza Oasis Hotel and Resort in Cavite.
“This kind of assessment is important in defining the progress and effectiveness of different projects under the rice program. The results of the assessment will determine if we are on track in attaining our targets,” said Regional Director Arnel V. de Mesa.
Regional Rice Program Coordinator Engr. Enrique H. Layola emphasized that the assessment aims to generate shared understanding and collective decision-making on how to further improve the banner program for 2019.
Different topics were discussed where DA officials and participants gave their critiques and suggestions, such as: a) presentation of production performance and forecast of CALABARZON; b) updates on pest monitoring and Pest Risk Identification and Management (PRIME); c) production-related research and development activities of Cavite Agricultural Research and Experiment Station (CARES); d) Community-based Participatory Action Research (CPAR) on rice-garlic farming system; e) community-based mushroom production project and soil analysis for rice; f) project on accelerating the development for direct seeded and rain-fed ecosystems; g) National Irrigation Administration (NIA) program updates and irrigation commitment for 2019; h) presentation of guidelines on cash-based budgeting system. • JBGA
