April 15, 2020, TANAY, RIZAL – Rizal Agricultural Research and Experiment Station (RARES) is on full force in conducting a series of farming activities at Brgy. Cuyambay, Tanay, Rizal, in support of the Department of Agriculture’s Plant, Plant, Plant program.
In what seemed like a brief description of a typical life cycle in agriculture, the research station was able to accomplish the following: drying and cleaning of palay harvest, sorting and harvesting of tomatoes and bell peppers, and planting of corn.
With the help of farm workers and technicians, other RARES employees dried and cleaned 1,720 kilograms (kgs) of palay last April 13. On the same day, they were able to harvest 120 kgs of salad tomato and cherry tomato that are locally-grown within the area.
The harvested vegetables were sorted the next day, gathering the tomatoes up for donation and setting the rest aside for tomato jam-making.
Recently, RARES employees also allotted half a hectare of land within the station for the planting of the glutinous corn that is locally-known as lagkitan. Upon successfully planting the corn seeds, they also harvested 220 kgs of bell pepper grown in the Smart Greenhouse.
RARES will donate the harvested tomatoes to the residents of Brgy. Cuyambay while leaving a portion of the vegetables to feed the skeletal workers of the station. Meanwhile, the bell peppers are awaiting for its institutional buyers and will be available at local markets. ● (SDAL, DA-RAFIS)
