Residents of some more distant areas of Quezon province, such as Patnanungan, Quezon, and San Francisco, will now be able to plant as vegetable seeds from the Department of Agriculture (DA) Region IV-CALABARZON were already distributed to the respective municipal agriculture offices (MAOs) through the provincial agriculture office.

Municipal Agriculturists (MAs) Eugene R. Luces of Patnanungan and Mary Rose C. Occidental of Quezon said that they had identified 1,351 and 4,101 households, respectively, to which okra, pechay, mustasa, kangkong, sitaw, labanos, upo, and patola seeds will be given. MA Meriam E. Limbo of San Francisco, on the other hand, mentioned they were targeting 50 percent of the families in the area that will benefit from these seeds for backyard gardening.

Mr. Luces, Ms. Occidental, and Ms. Limbo all believe that the Plant, Plant, Plant program of DA is a great initiative that helps people realize the importance of agriculture, particularly in these trying times.

In line with this, the three MAOs have their own activities to wit: sowing seeds for walk-in clients (Patnanungan); urging people to do backyard gardening through “Gulayan sa Bakuran” project (Quezon); and establishing a relationship with the community to easily promote DA’s program to them (San Francisco).

They are just a few of the areas in the province that support DA in this endeavor. Aside from distributing seeds, several other cities and municipalities cultivate planting areas, provide market opportunities for agricultural products, and the like. ● (JAPE, DA-RAFIS)
