Improving and strengthening research capacity of the DA RFO R&D network for rice-based farming system

With the aim of capacitating the regional field offices’ (RFOs) personnel of the Department of Agriculture (DA) improve and strengthen their research, development, and extension (RDE) programs, projects, and activities, the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) conducted the workshop on benchmarking the research capacity of the regional rice and rice-based research and development (R&D) network for Luzon B cluster (CALABARZON, MIMAROPA, and Bicol regions) on February 27 – March 1, 2019 at Bali Village Hotel in Tagaytay City, Cavite.

Representatives from the DA RFO CALABARZON who actively participated in the activity were under the research (including research outreach stations), operations (rice program), integrated laboratory, planning, monitoring, and evaluation, agribusiness and marketing assistance, and agricultural engineering divisions; and agriculture and fisheries information section.

Priority setting of RDE programs and projects across different areas such as input, production, postharvest/processing, marketing, and socioeconomic/policy/support systems; and planning for human resource/capacity development activities for 2020 onwards including possible research studies, trainings, and additional resources were the outputs of the groups.

These will be linked to R&D agenda of each region to provide support in conducting more coherent, effective, and sufficient researches for the development in rice and rice-based farming systems. • ARC
