49 Laguna farmers graduate from DA CALABARZON’s Radyo Eskwela

A total of 49 learners from Cabuyao City, Mabitac, Magdalena, and Victoria in Laguna province marched during the graduation of “Radyo Eskwela sa CALABARZON on Hybrid Rice Production: Kabuhayang Nice sa Hybrid Rice” of the Department of Agriculture (DA) Region IV CALABARZON, held on December 7, 2018 at OPA Training Center, OPA Demo Farm in Brgy. Calios, Sta. Cruz, Laguna.

Through discussions by school-on-the-air (SOA) radio teachers, they completed the following lessons: 1) characteristics and varieties of hybrid rice, 2) planting hybrid rice (land preparation, seed and seedbed preparation, transplanting, etc.), 3) fertilizer recommendation for hybrid rice, 4) water management in hybrid rice, 5) insect pests and diseases of hybrid rice and their management, 6) harvesting and postharvest handling of hybrid rice, and 7) marketing hybrid rice. These were aired over Radyo Natin 106.3 FM Laguna every Monday at 8:30 โ€“ 9:15 am and KISS FM 95.1 every Tuesday at 12:00 โ€“ 12:45 pm, all first and third weeks of the month, from September to November, 2018; and were posted on Department of Agriculture Region 4A Facebook Page.

“As the DA CALABARZON’s distance learning, we are glad that SOA achieved its objectives to disseminate information on hybrid rice farming and served as a tool for agricultural extension. Rest assured that we will continue utilizing radio as one of the ways in reaching our partners and stakeholders, and provide them with relevant information,” Regional Information Officer and Regional Agriculture and Fisheries Information Office Chief Patria T. Bulanhagui said.

To acknowledge the efforts of all those who had been part of the program, graduates, provincial, city, and municipal agriculture offices, and radio teachers received certificates. Raffle draw was also done to liven up the activity. โ€ข ARC
