In celebration of the Farmers’ and Fisherfolk’s Month, the Department of Agriculture (DA) Region IV-CALABARZON, through its Agribusiness and Marketing Assistance Division (AMAD), in partnership with Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA) Region IV-A, holds the “TienDA cum Buko Festival” today (May 6, 2019) until tomorrow (May 7) at RMIC Bldg., BPI Cmpd., Visayas Ave. in Diliman, Quezon City.

During the flag raising ceremony, DA CALABARZON Regional Director Arnel V. de Mesa thanked the farmers and fisherfolk for their significant role in the implementation of agriculture and fisheries programs and activities. And in support of Secretary Emmanuel F. Piñol’s directive to promote coconut, he highlighted, “Through coconut festival, we are encouraging everyone to drink coco water not just during summer months but the whole year round as it does have many health benefits…This would also help increase the income of our coconut farmers by providing an alternative to the selling of copra.”

Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA) IV-A, through Senior Agriculturist Warren M. de Guzman, is grateful, for the DA has regained supervision over the PCA and making its efforts well-coordinated.

Regional Agricultural and Fishery Council (RAFC) Chairperson Pedrito R. Kalaw, being the DA CALABARZON Farmer-Director for the month of May, expressed his appreciation to the DA through AMAD for conducting this activity to acknowledge farmers like him and fishers for their hard work to provide food to every Filipino.

A ceremonial drinking of buko juice was done with the directors, division chiefs, and station superintendents.

Among the exhibitors who got the chance to display in kiosks their 100% fresh and farm-grown products at farm gate prices are Batangas Organic and Natural Cooperative, Southern Luzon Farmers and Traders (SOLUFAT) Agriculture Cooperative, Sinag Kabuhayan, Mira’s Turmeric Products, San Luis Farmers’ Association, Cacao Growers’ Association of San Antonio, Quezon, Green Rescue Organic Association (GRO), Edna & Rebecca’s Banana Chips & Coated Peanuts, Samahan ng mga Kababaihan ng Barangay Taliba, Alabat Island Coco Sugar, Katutubong Magsasaka ng Cuyambay, Greenlife Coconut Products Philippines, Inc., and Batangas Free Range Chicken.

Products offered on sale include fruits, vegetables, eggs, value-added products, coconut products, and many more.

Farmers’ and Fisherfolk’s Month is observed yearly pursuant to Presidential Proclamation No. 33, issued on May 21, 1989. • ARC
