Goat and sheep raisers from all over the region, as recipients of animals under the livelihood assistance program of the Department of Agriculture (DA) Region IV-CALABARZON, were invited to attend a seminar about goat and sheep management last June 28, 2019 at STIARC Conference Room in Lipa City, Batangas.
The seminar served as a learning experience for first-time goat and sheep raisers, and a refresher course for those who already have ample knowledge of goat and sheep management. It was graced with the presence of Engr. Elmer T. Ferry, the Assistant Regional Director for Research and Regulations, who gave an inspiring message, as well as Ms. Vilma M. Dimaculangan, the Regional Livestock Program Coordinator, who in turn briefed the participants regarding the livelihood assistance program of DA.
Ms. Jennifer Cusi of Quezon Provincial Veterinary Office presented a lecture for basic goat production wherein the importance of housing, nourishment, and the signs and characteristics to take note of when observing such animals was discussed. On the other hand, Ms. Jessa Mae Galera, an Agriculturist I from the Organic Agriculture Research and Development Center (OARDC), talked about the proper management of sheep.
The participants voiced out their insights and asked questions throughout the seminar which were all responded to by the speakers. •
