In a desire to improve the quality of life of coconut farmers in the municipality of Alabat, Senator Cynthia A. Villar, Chairperson of the Senate Committee on Agriculture and Food, together with various government agencies conducted a dialogue with 400 coconut farmer-leaders on February 7, 2019 at Alabat Island National High School.

In her message, Senator Villar said that she continues pushing laws that would bring reforms and benefits to the Filipino farmers including the agricultural workers and the agri-entrepreneurs, and all those involved in agriculture.

Also, she visited Alabat Coco Hub, a coconut processing center where she saw the actual processing of coco sugar.

On the same occasion, Department of Agriculture (DA) National Livestock Program, DA Region IV-CALABARZON, Agricultural Training Institute- International Training Center on Pig Husbandry (ATI-ITCPH), Soro-Soro Ibaba Development Cooperative (SIDC), and the Local Government of Alabat signed a Memorandum of Agreement amounting to PhP3 million for the implementation of Backyard Swine Production Project.

“This project is pursuant to Secretary Manny Piñol’s intention in attaining equitable distribution of opportunities, expanding and sustaining agricultural productivity resulting in uplifting the quality of life of our farmers,” said DA Region IV-CALABARZON Regional Director Arnel V. de Mesa. · JBGA
